On Thursday, October 16, 2014 I took my first trip to New York.
I’ve never been on a plane, i never been anywhere outside of Texas, so this was a big deal for me. I’ve always dreamed of New York, I never thought I would go there any time soon. What made this trip more fun, is the fact that it wasn’t planned.
My boyfriend is obsessively in love with a band named Rosetta, after reading a post that their second to last concert for the year will be in New York he just asked me, “do you want to go to New York?” at first i thought he was playing, but after seeing how serious he was i jumped from excitement. To be honest, it didn’t feel real until we where at the airport waiting for our plane.
It was 4 am and I was so nervous, I never been on a plane before and I was very afraid. I could feel my stomach turning inside out, when it was time for us to start boarding my heart began to beat fast. Despite me being afraid I still wanted a seat by the window, thankfully I managed to sit by one. I cannot stress enough how beautiful the view was! it didn’t feel real, I felt like I was staring at my computer’s screen and looking at a googled image. There’s nothing more beautiful than flying when it’s dark.
After a few hours we arrived at Baltimore. I was so excited to explore around, but we couldn’t leave the airport because it was very isolated. I was a bit disappointed, but after eating Chipotle, I felt a lot better! Unfortunately, our flight got delayed for a few hours and I was really bored, but it built up my anxiety, I was just an hour away from NY!!
I’ll just fast forward to what I did in New York.
I rode the subway for the first time and was very afraid because of the rumors about people stealing and being mean. However, I can assure you that New Yorkers are way more friendlier than Texans, so much for southern hospitality huh? The funniest part was riding the subway, it was so crowded there was no space to move. I felt like people could tell I wasn’t from around because every time the subway would move I lose my balance.
What I planned for trip was to stay as far away from the tourist attractions; I wanted to explore and get lost. I went to Soho, Canal St, Brooklyn bridge, Time Square and just random streets.
What I really liked was the art that was all over the place. Buildings, doors, sidewalks, just full of graffiti, posters, and stickers.
I couldn’t help but to take an awful picture of myself in front of this wall.
That day we walked across the Brooklyn bridge and to our hotel for miles! when we finally arrived we got ready for the concert. The concert was going to be at a bar called Saint Vitus which was really awesome and seemed a bit underground. I got to help the band sell merch and got to meet and hangout with them. The concert was really amazing and unforgettable; my boyfriend couldn’t have been happier. We got our picture taken and their autographs (all those pictures are on my Instagram if you are interested.)
After the concert ended it was around 1:00 am, I was very surprise to see how many people were still awake! I was a bit scared to walk back to the hotel, but everything was fine, we even stopped at a deli and got some delicious sandwiches. What I noticed about New York, is that they use cash more than Credit/Debit cards, and some places don’t even add taxes!
The next day we headed back to Manhattan, we went to almost every single shopping outlet in the area including time square. A reason why I belong in New York is because they have an H&M in almost every single street! I bought different things from 5 different H&Ms! I really enjoyed Time Square everything was so full of energy, I got to take a picture with Mickey and Minnie mouse, I even ate a New York hot dog. If I could live by Time Square, I would.
I am very in love with this city and the people. I felt like I belong there. As a person who loves the Fashion Industry and art, New York made me feel like I was home. It would be almost impossible for me to live there because of the prices and how crowded it is, but maybe once I make it in my career I might be able to travel there constantly. There is Fashion everywhere you turn, there is art, and inspiration.
In my whole trip there I visited Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Newburgh. If you live in New York, you are so lucky! what I would do to wake up every morning and see the skyline out my window again.
