From November 17,2014 to November 21, 2014 I worked as a dresser for Fashion Houston’s fifth year fashion event#FH5
I’ve had some experience in being a dresser and styling, but never for a big event like this. I was a bit nervous at first and didn’t know what to expect, we were divided into teams and each team handled a different designer a day. I will tell you about my experience on being a dresser for the entire week.
Monday: The first designer we did fittings for was Alexis Monsanto. I just want to say that he was such a character! He was very picky when I t came to finding models that would flatter his garments perfectly, some models were on the verge of crying and I honestly felt bad for them, but that’s just how the industry is. Monsanto had a personal stylist assisting him named Jessie. I love Jessie he has such a great sense of style and was very sweet and friendly to all of us, I like how they balanced each other out perfectly. After a few hours of zipping and un-zipping my index finger began to hurt! I was very exhausted especially because they had long complex gowns and crazy fun accessories. By the end of the day everything was ready for Tuesday, where Alexis Monsanto among other designers such as tibi, Jonathan Blake, Sameera Faridi, and more will do opening night for Fashion Houston.
Tuesday, Day 1: Tuesday morning I arrived extra early, while I was waiting for people to arrive I saw Jessie (Alexis Monsanto’s Assistant) He was surprised by how early I was and he said “People nowadays aren’t early anymore, especially in this industry.” He also told me that I was going to make it far just for being punctual, he asked me to tag along with him as we headed upstairs to the runway. Fashion Houston was getting covered by our local Fox News featuring one of Alexis Monsanto’s Designs. I helped dress the model on the runway and like any good intern I brought coffee and water for everyone. Jessie was very impressed by how helpful I was and told me that later Alexis was going to have a photo shoot for an International Magazine, and asked me if I wanted to tag along, of course I said YES! Its not every day you get an opportunity like that. Until then I went back to help with fittings.

We began fittings for Naeem Khan, unfortunately he did not come to the fittings, but his assistant did. I was so excited because there was a dress among the garments that was worn by Jennifer Lopez a few days before. Is it weird that I touched the butt part of the garment?! I was so happy just knowing I was touching something that had been worn by Jlo herself. During the fittings Naeem’s assistant got a called about shipping a dress to New York for Taylor Swift and a dress to L.A for Kate Hudson. I couldn’t believe this was happening! I helped prepare those boxes for shipping and even placed the garments in the box! When I see taylor or Kate wearing those garments I’m going to know that I put those garments in boxes for them! *Fan Girl Moment*
During the Fittings Jessie Called me to help for the photo shoot. I had such a great time helping and I met some amazing photographers.
Tuesday Night we where ready to began dressing for the runway! It was a chaos there were models, clothes and shoes all over the place! I managed to sneak out and take a few pictures of the show…

Even if iI didn’t get to meet the other designers or help with the fittings, Tuesday was my favorite and most tiring day.
Wednesday, Day 2: I was so tired from running around Tuesday that I didn’t work Wednesday! I actually regret staying home and sleeping all day, I missed a great day! Here is a Video Recap by CultureMap Houston of Day 2 featuring designers Rubin Singer, M.L.C, Rene Ruiz Naeem Khan and many more.
Thursday, Day 3: Thursday was actually a very busy day! we did all the fittings for thursday and friday. I spend most of the time steaming clothes, but the biggest highlight of the day was that I got to meet Valentina Kova, she told me that if i had any questions regarding the fashion industry to ask her and she even gave me a hug! She was such a sweet heart I wish I would’ve taken a picture with her! I also met Bibhu Mohapatra and Chloe Dao. I don’t know why i’m too shy to ask people to take pictures with me, I just knew they were so busy I didn’t want to bother them.
Time flew and we were ready to begin the show! according to most of the audience, Thursday had the best designers because their garments took everyone’s breath away.

Once again I managed to sneak out of the chaos and watched the show.
Friday, Day 4: The last day… we had nothing to do we where just hanging out waiting for the show to start, I actually spend more time with the other interns, we ate and got to know each other better. I couldn’t believe this was all coming to an end! I got so used to the routine and the people around me, even if it was time consuming I just loved the fact that I was doing something I enjoyed.
We took a better more professional picture on the red carpet but the photographer hasn’t given me the picture yet.
The designers for the last night were: Fabrice Tardieu, Amir Taghi, David Peck, Valentina Kova and more. It was truly a great night! I even got to see Will Jardell walk for Fabrice Tardieu, who by the way gave e a kiss on the cheek.

I truly am going to miss this week, I had such a great opportunity and feel very thankful and privilege to meet all the designers, models and interns. Everyone was just so amazing I am truly blessed. Goodbye Fashion Houston, see you next year.
